My Dearest Frank Thomas,                                                                      

          You are the newest leaf on our family tree.  Your birth brought so much joy to so many people: your Mom and Dad, of course, and your Grandma and Grandpa Hubbler, and uncles and aunts and cousins and friends on both your Mommy’s and Daddy’s sides of the family.  I’m sure they’ve already given you lots of hugs and kisses and fabulous gifts as well. 

          Although I am not there with you on earth, I want you to know that I am watching over you with all the little angels in heaven.  I am your Grandma Cathie.  I wonder what you would have called me:  Grandma?  Babczi? Nanna?  or something you would  have made up yourself?  Whatever it was, I would have loved it, as I love you. 

          I always loved babies.  Even when I was a little girl, I said I wanted to be a  baby doctor.  After many years of study, I became an obstetrician—that’s a doctor who helps mommies have their children.  Over the years I delivered thousands of babies and every one was special; but I didn’t realize just how special until I had my own—your Daddy and Uncle John.  They were my everything. 

          As they grew we went through a lot together—mostly good times, but we also had some challenges.  With patience and love we got through it all and I was so proud of the men they became.  I wanted them to be happy. 

         When your Daddy and Mommy met and fell in love, they were on their way to starting a life together.  One of my dreams was to see them get married and then have children of their own—my grandchildren—the culmination of my happiness. That’s what you are, my Darling Frank. 

         If I were there I would cuddle you whenever I could, tell you stories and sing you songs.  Since we aren’t together, I want to tell you about myself and have you get to know me, because I know you very well. So here are some stories about me when I was little, and I’ll keep sending others as time goes on.  We can call it Getting to Know Grandma Cathie.
