Christmas 2020 4

“Remember when old December’s darkness is everywhere about you, that the world is really in every minutest point as full of life as in the most joyous morning you ever lived; that the sun is shining down, the waves dancing, and the gulls skimming down on the beach as freshly as in the first morning of creation; and the hour is  just as fit as any hour that ever was for a new gospel of cheer to be preached.” from a letter by philosopher William James sent to Thomas Ward in 1868.

With apologies to Clement Moore, here’s my take on this year’s holiday:

It’s the week before Christmas, and all through the house, the only creature stirring is the computer mouse.

It takes me to live screen church services and entertainment, and to Zoom classes and meetings; it helps me shop on line and send holiday greetings.

While out in the world the pandemic rages:  tests, infections, deaths and business closings in stages.

When will it end? You might very well ask, while we continue to social distance, wash our hands and wear masks.

The vaccine has been shipped and will soon be here to defeat the Covid Grinch and give us cause to cheer.

As we look forward to bidding 2020 adieu, this is my Christmas Wish for you: * PEACE * JOY * LOVE *

P.S. This will be my last Blog in the Lessons of Life and Love series.  I’m working on a new theme for the coming year.  Stay safe and stay tuned.
